The Osemawe of Ondo Kingdom, Oba Victor Kiladejo, has congratulated President‑elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on his victory in the presidential election held on 25 February 2023. In a letter made available to our correspondent on Tuesday, the first‑class monarch expressed that the people of the entire Ondo Kingdom are happy and proud of the president‑elect, citing his political record over the years.
Oba Kiladejo urged the president‑elect to “reciprocate the confidence reposed in him by all Nigerians by delivering the much‑needed good governance.” He wrote: “It is with much joy and excitement that I convey the goodwill of the Osemawe Palace and the entire Ondo people, at home and abroad, to Your Excellency on your election as the 16th President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Hearty congratulations!”
He continued, “Please note, Your Excellency, that the people of this Kingdom have followed your political trajectory over these decades with keen interest. We have noted your untainted commitment to democracy and the determination you have brought to deepening democratic governance in our country.” The monarch praised Tinubu’s “doggedness, diligence and focused political engagement across the nation,” calling him a worthy son of Yoruba land.
“We, the Ondos, are enthused that you have underscored the values the Yoruba people in Nigeria and the diaspora hold dear,” Oba Kiladejo wrote. “We are happy that the entire country now sees what the Yoruba have always seen in you and has chosen to invest you with the power you have always sought. For us, we know that you seek this power not for yourself, but as a plank for delivering good governance to the entire country.”
The Osemawe concluded with a prayer: “May Almighty God, who sees the good intentions of your heart, continue to grant you grace, wisdom, and strength to turn these plans and desires into reality.” He also extended “very high regards” to Tinubu’s supportive wife, the future first lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, a distinguished alumna of the Federal Government’s flagship institution in the community, Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo City. He closed with, “Accept, Your Excellency, the assurance of our very high regards, and congratulations!”
