The Church of Christ Evangelical and Life Intercessory Ministry in Sabon Tasha, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, distributed food items to more than 1,000 under‑privileged Muslims on Wednesday, ahead of the 30‑day Ramadan fasting period. The aid, delivered under the auspices of the Association of Persons with Disabilities at the Kano Road Central Mosque in Kaduna, primarily reached Almajiri students and beggars. Recipients received bags of rice, maize, millet and plastic kettles.

Pastor Yohanna Buru, the church’s General Overseer, told reporters that the distribution aimed to cushion the impact of the naira redesign, fuel scarcity and rising food prices on the most vulnerable. He added that the gesture also sought to strengthen peaceful coexistence and religious tolerance among the region’s residents. “We are reciprocating the generosity of Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani, a Muslim woman who shares rice, cash and new clothes with our widows and orphans during Christmas, New Year and Easter,” Buru said.

Buru noted that last year the church had supplied rice, maize and other staples to poor Muslims in five northern states to enable full participation in Ramadan. This year, the ministry added mats and plastic kettles so families could stay at home and pray for an end to insecurity, high inflation and other challenges threatening national peace and stability. “We are targeting over 1,000 poor Muslims; we have bought 50 bags of maize and millet to share in parts of the North,” he explained.

The pastor appealed to well‑meaning individuals to assist the less privileged and urged traders to refrain from arbitrarily raising food prices during the holy month. “As Muslims worldwide begin their 30 days of fasting and prayer, we wish them a happy Ramadan Kareem in advance,” he said.

Mallam Hassan Mohammed, a leader of the Association of Persons Living with Disabilities, expressed gratitude for the church’s support, which he said has continued for over a decade. He called on wealthy Muslims to contribute foodstuffs so the community can stay at home and pray for the nation. “We really appreciate our Christian brothers and sisters; their help arrived at a time of need when few thought of us,” he added.
