Pius Anyim and Ayodele Fayose

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) announced on Thursday that it has suspended former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose, former Senate president Pius Anyim, Professor Dennis Ityavyar, and Aslam Aliyu. The suspensions take effect immediately and follow an extensive review of party affairs conducted under the provisions of the PDP Constitution, as amended in 2017. In addition, the party has referred Benue State governor Samuel Ortom to the National Disciplinary Committee for his alleged involvement in anti‑party activities. The statements were released by National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba, who urged “all leaders, critical stakeholders and teeming members of our party across the country to remain united and focused at this critical time.”

In separate remarks, Fayose blamed stakeholders and politicians for most of the nation’s problems, asserting that “nothing has changed since 1979.” He recalled a 2015 interview with Muhammadu Buhari, in which Buhari claimed he would win even if he lost the election, and noted that “the system is sick” and “nobody is protecting it.” Fayose argued that, rather than faulting the Independent National Electoral Commission, the country should draw a red line similar to the army’s stance, insisting that “nothing was wrong in the elections.”
