Three students from Greenspring School—Segun Balogun, Adewale Saliu and David Onukwugha—have won $298,000 in scholarships after being named the overall best in the Nigeria 2023 Conrad Challenge. Their winning entry was a smartphone application that links craftsmen with people who need their services. Representing the school as Team S.A.D (the initials of their first names), the trio’s innovation earned them not only the scholarship funds but also an exclusive invitation to represent Nigeria at the Global Conrad Summit in April at NASA’s Johnson/Kennedy Space Center in the United States, as well as a N1 million cash prize.
Acting Deputy Director of Education, Mrs Feyisara Ojugo, highlighted Greenspring School’s strong showing in the competition, noting that the school entered five teams out of the 230 teams from various schools nationwide. Four of those five teams advanced to the finals, with Team S.A.D emerging as the winner in the cyber‑technology and security category and ultimately the overall champion in Nigeria after weeks of rigorous effort. In addition to the grand prize, each of the 15 students who comprised the four finalist teams received $60,000 in scholarships from Clarkson University and awards of excellence.
Mrs Ojugo expressed pride that the students developed an app that addresses a specific national challenge by connecting craftsmen with potential clients, thereby expanding market access beyond geographic limitations.
