The abductors of two teenagers taken in Ayede Ogbese, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, have contacted the victims’ families demanding a ransom of N10 million for their release. According to reports, the youths were kidnapped along the Akure‑Owo Expressway and taken to a forest. A source said three persons were initially abducted, but one managed to escape.
The incident sparked outrage among the community’s youths, who staged a protest on Friday. Demonstrators blocked the busy expressway, causing traffic gridlock for several hours. Police attempts to calm the crowd failed, and the protesters insisted on maintaining the barricade until police eventually dispersed them.
High Chief Oladimeji Abitogun, a community leader and Odopetu of Ayede Ogbese land, told our correspondent that the bandits entered the town and kidnapped two teenage girls, demanding N10 million. Police Public Relations Officer Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami confirmed the kidnapping and said the Anti‑Kidnapping Squad had been mobilized to rescue the victims. She added that normalcy has now returned, with the expressway cleared for the free flow of vehicles.
