Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Delta North senatorial seat, has filed a petition with the election petitions tribunal challenging the victory of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Ned Nwoko. The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Nwoko the winner with 92,514 votes, ahead of his closest rival, Ken Kanma of the Labour Party, who received 86,121 votes. Nwaoboshi, who garnered 36,816 votes, is currently incarcerated following a fraud conviction.
The APC’s state publicity secretary, Valentine Onojegheuo, disclosed the petition on Friday in Asaba while discussing the party’s efforts to reclaim the mandate. Meanwhile, the National and State Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal in Asaba has received a total of 25 petitions: eight from senatorial candidates and 17 from House of Representatives candidates. Tribunal secretary Okedara Adejoke reported on Saturday that 15 ex parte motions were served, of which 12 were granted as prayed and three were struck out.
