Nigeria Head Coach José Santos Peseiro said his team played well despite the defeat to Guinea‑Bissau in the Group A qualifier for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations at the National Stadium in Abuja on Friday. In a post on his verified Twitter account, Peseiro noted that the Super Eagles created many goal‑scoring opportunities but were unable to convert them, expressing disappointment with the result.
“We are sad and upset with this bad result. But we played a good game, very attacking, and created many goalscoring opportunities that unfortunately we didn’t take. We want to repeat this performance in Guinea, but scoring. We are going with all our commitment and sacrifice to win,” he wrote on Saturday.
Guinea‑Bissau’s Mama Balde scored the only goal of the match in the 29th minute, giving his side seven points and the top spot in the group, and boosting their chances of reaching the tournament in Ivory Coast next year.
