He can’t be at PSG next season – LaLiga lists conditions for Messi’s return to Barcelona

La Liga president, Javier Tebas has said that Lionel Messi won’t be playing his football at either Barcelona or PSG next season.

However, he said for Messi to return to Barcelona next season, the club’s financial situation would change drastically, adding that it would take offloading players and that the 35-year-old would have to reduce his salary to almost nothing.

Messi’s deal at PSG will expire at the end of the season and nothing has been done to extend his stay at Parc des Princes. There have been talks about a return to Barcelona two years after he left Spain.

While the Argentine World Cup winner could return to Barcelona as a free agent, he is likely to command a huge wage.

The 7-time Ballon d’Or winner is currently pocketing €34 million in wages this season at PSG and Tebas believes the French side can no longer afford that.

Tebas said, according to Mundo Deportivo, “Many things have to change for Leo Messi’s return to Barcelona. First off, he has to drastically lower his salary; the club must offload players and other things that they are yet to do. They are the only ones who can do it. We will not change the rules.

“Messi can’t be at Barcelona or PSG next season. In fact, PSG earn less money than Barcelona.”
