Ahmed Musa, captain of the Super Eagles, became the most‑capped Nigerian player after featuring in the second leg of Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Guinea‑Bissau. The Nigerian national team defeated the Djurtus 1‑0 at the Estadio 24 de Setembro, and Musa’s appearance pushed his total to 108 caps, setting a new record for Nigeria.
Musa made his Eagles debut in 2010 and was part of the 2013 Nations Cup‑winning side. With 108 caps, he joins the ranks of France’s Zinedine Zidane, Germany’s Jürgen Klinsmann and England’s Tim Cahill, all of whom have also reached that milestone. The 30‑year‑old captain has now surpassed Patrick Vieira’s 107 caps for France and Frank Lampard’s 106 caps for England.
Since his debut, the forward has scored 16 goals for the national team and is Nigeria’s top scorer in World Cup history with four goals. At club level, Musa has recorded 92 goals and 65 assists.
