The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), said on Tuesday that Nigeria would experience effective governance under President‑elect Bola Tinubu. He noted that Tinubu’s political pedigree and experience position him to achieve this when he assumes office on May 29.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, President Buhari said, “As the President‑elect prepares to take over the mantle of leadership at 71, his political pedigree—from the 1990s, his active role in party politics, his election as Senator and later Governor of Lagos State, and his diligent involvement in the executive and legislative structures for many years—will serve as an asset for good and effective governance.”

President Buhari added that Asiwaju’s warmth, friendliness and generosity have created a network of friends at home and abroad, which will shape his presidency with the expertise needed to guide the economy and build on the investments of past leaders, particularly in people‑first development and infrastructure.

He also congratulated the President‑elect on turning 71 on Wednesday and prayed for the wellbeing of Asiwaju and his family.
