An auto crash claimed the lives of 24 people on Monday night in the Lavun Local Government Area of Niger State. The truck, which was transporting passengers from Zaria to Lagos, was carrying 87 persons at the time of the accident.
According to Kumar Tsukwan, sector commander of the Niger State Sector of the Federal Road Safety Corps, the crash occurred in Etsu Woro village at 10:10 p.m. along the Bida‑Mokwa Road. He described the incident as a lone accident involving a single Sino truck.
The fatalities included 17 males, 4 females and 4 children. In addition to the dead, 45 other passengers were injured and taken to the general hospital in Kutigi for treatment. The bodies have been deposited in the mortuary at Kutigi, while the injured were evacuated from the crash site to receive medical attention.
