Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi said he feels blessed to play for the Nigeria national football team, according to Sports Extra. On matchday four of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers, a first‑half penalty won by Bright Osayi‑Samuel and converted by Moses Simon secured a 1‑0 away victory over Guinea‑Bissau on Monday. The win returned Jose Peseiro’s side to the top of the group with nine points, while Guinea moved into second place with seven.

Speaking to NFF TV, Ajayi emphasized the importance of the result after the team’s shocking defeat to the Wild Dogs in the first leg in Abuja. “It was a very important result for our qualification,” he said. “It put us back on top of the group and in pole position. We know we let ourselves down on Friday, and it feels good to correct that result and come home with a win.”

Ajayi also expressed his joy at wearing the green and white of the Eagles whenever he is called up. “It is a blessing, honestly, anytime I am called to play for my country—whether it is one minute or 90 minutes—I don’t take it lightly. To be given the opportunity to represent my country is special,” he said. “I was able to start today and help the team pick up a very valuable win. That is all that matters to me.”
