The Nigeria Police Force has announced plans to investigate and prosecute singer Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable, for unruly behavior. The decision follows a viral video in which the artist appears to act irrationally and insult police officers performing their legal duties at his bar. The Force’s Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this in a statement released on Wednesday, describing the singer’s actions as criminal and punishable under Nigerian law.
Adejobi’s statement read: “The Nigeria Police Force condemns the actions of Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known by his stage name Portable, in a viral video where he exhibited irrational behavior and hurled insults at police officers carrying out their legal duty. Such conduct is criminal and punishable by the criminal laws of Nigeria.” He added that the singer’s behavior was “unruly and likely to cause a breach of peace and incitement of violence” against officers who were attempting to execute a warrant of arrest for a series of alleged criminal acts against Mr. Portable.
The police affirmed that they will take all necessary steps to investigate the incident and prosecute any criminal activity, depending on the severity of the offense. “The Police will not condone any unruly act, assault, or attack on its officers who are on lawful duty,” Adejobi said. “We need to respect our law‑enforcement agents who continually risk their lives to maintain law and order and combat crime in our society.”
