The Kano State Governor‑elect, Malam Abba Kabir Yusuf, pledged on Wednesday to embrace a people‑oriented democracy that emphasizes peaceful coexistence and the prosperity of the state. He made the disclosure shortly after receiving his Certificate of Return, together with 26 newly elected members of the House of Assembly, from the Independent National Electoral Commission.
“We have what it takes to move Kano State to the next level through massive infrastructural development,” Yusuf said, adding that his immediate family members will not interfere in the administration of the state. “We accept this privilege with heavy responsibility; we shall carry out the people’s democratic directives with focus and unrelenting dedication. We will govern for all, for peace and prosperity of the state,” he declared.
Yusuf also expressed his indebtedness to traditional, institutional and religious leaders who ensured an atmosphere of peace, and he praised the tireless efforts and commitment of NNPP leaders at all levels. He pledged to reinvigorate the education sector by providing modern learning facilities and a conducive environment.
In addition, Yusuf promised to prioritize water supply, health, agriculture, security, and the empowerment of youth and women. He noted that a blueprint has already been prepared to halt the perennial water scarcity in Kano metropolis and other major towns. “We will expand water supply to every nook and cranny of the metropolis so people have access to potable drinking water for both human and animal consumption,” he said. “We will utilize dams and provide assorted farming implements at subsidized rates to enhance massive, year‑round food production.” He added that the NNPP administration will give priority to the health sector by providing modern facilities to improve the quality of healthcare delivery at the grassroots.
