Following the suspension of Publicity Secretary Mr. Jare Ajayi and Organizing Secretary Abagun Omololu by the leadership of the pan‑Yoruba socio‑political organization Afenifere, a group under the auspices of the Omoluabi Team Alliance Socio‑Cultural Group (OTASCG) has condemned Afenifere’s resolutions. The suspensions were announced at an Afenifere meeting held on Tuesday at the residence of Pa Ayo Adebanjo in Ogun State, where Ajayi and Omololu were placed on indefinite suspension for alleged gross misconduct.

In a communique issued at the close of that meeting, Afenifere also rejected the outcome of the recent presidential election won by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, among other resolutions. The OTASCG, through a statement from its Chairman, Mr. Jaiyeola, and Secretary, Alex Akinfolarin, described the Adebanjo gathering as illegal. The statement noted that the meeting was attended by some unidentified members of the group and condemned Afenifere’s resolutions, particularly the rejection of Tinubu as the legitimate winner of the February 25 presidential election.

The OTASCG’s statement read: “The resolutions further portray Pa Ayo Adebanjo‑led Afenifere as confused people with misplaced priorities. Their description of the presidential election held on 25 February 2023 as being characterized by ‘all forms of primitive manipulations’ and non‑compliance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is totally condemnable. It baffles us that they would make statements that rubbish a free, fair, and credible election accepted by Nigerians who exercised their franchise willingly and without financial inducement.”

The group added that it is unacceptable for a few individuals to use selfish interests to condemn an election that produced a competent, credible, trusted, and experienced President‑elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to whom Nigerians have entrusted the leadership needed to reform the country across all sectors beginning 29 May 2023. Conversely, the claim that credible sources indicate Labour Party candidate Peter Obi won the election is called into question.

Finally, the OTASCG urged members of the public and right‑thinking indigenes of Yoruba land and the South‑West to disregard entirely any resolutions arising from illegal meetings driven by selfish interests.
