President‑elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu marked his 71st birthday on Wednesday with a pledge that he will not disappoint Nigerians when he assumes office. In a statement titled “My 71st Birthday Message to Nigerians,” he emphasized that he cannot afford to squander the mandate he has been given, describing the presidency as a dream he has spent his life perfecting.

Tinubu expressed gratitude to those who offered goodwill on his birthday, saying he was profoundly touched by their care and support. He thanked God for the life, opportunities, and doors that have come his way. While acknowledging the spiritual significance of Ramadan, he noted that this is his first birthday as President‑elect, a milestone that follows the honor Nigerians bestowed on him a few weeks earlier. He reminded the nation that his inauguration is set for 29 May, two months away, and stressed that this rare privilege will not be taken lightly.

He declined any expectation of birthday presents, stating that the greatest gift he has received is the chance to lead and fulfill the nation’s destiny. Tinubu pledged to use the occasion to reaffirm his commitment to rebuilding Nigeria and renewing hope for its people. He reminded listeners that the promises made during his campaign were not empty words but a binding covenant to create a better Nigeria for every citizen, regardless of how they voted.

Having prepared for this moment all his life, Tinubu vowed not to fail. He called for growth, hope, peace and compassion to resonate throughout the land, urging Nigerians to find the right path and the courage to transform the country into a strong, just and prosperous home for all. He concluded by asking Almighty God to bless all Nigerians.
