The Nasarawa State command of the Nigeria Police Force has arrested a suspected criminal accused of stealing from residents of the Karu Local Government Area. In a statement released to reporters in Lafia on Thursday, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, said the suspect—who had been on the police watchlist—was tracked down and apprehended in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, after diligent efforts by command officers.

According to the statement, on 27 March 2023 at about 12:30 p.m., a complaint was lodged at the Karshi Division reporting a burglary at an apartment on Modupe Olusola Street, Papaladna, Karshi Development Area, Karu LGA. Household items, including a 2010 Toyota Matrix, were taken by unknown persons. A discreet and thorough investigation was launched immediately.

The police effort paid off on 28 March 2023 when the principal suspect, 32‑year‑old Gabriel Okpe “M,” was trailed and arrested at Jikwoyi, FCT, Abuja. Recovered items included the Toyota Matrix (registration ABC 277 FV, Abuja), a Honda Accord (registration LC 699 EKY, Lagos), two plasma television sets, an Elepaq generator, a standing fan, a laptop, a microwave, a gas cylinder and burner, two iPads, a Samsung smartphone, and other belongings.

Nansel added that Commissioner of Police Maiyaki Baba has ordered the suspect to be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
