First Bank of Nigeria Limited has announced a phased corporate name change for its subsidiaries in the United Kingdom and Sub‑Saharan Africa. The bank disclosed the plan in a statement by Folake Ani‑Mumuney, Group Head of Marketing & Corporate Communications, titled “FirstBank announces a name change of its subsidiaries, reiterates its commitment to boosting cross‑border business opportunities in Africa and the world.”

The first set of subsidiaries to undergo the name alignment are FBNBank UK, FBNBank Sierra Leone, FBNBank Gambia and FBNBank DRC. They are now known as FirstBank UK, FirstBank Sierra Leone, FirstBank Gambia and FirstBank DRC. The subsidiaries in Ghana, Senegal and Guinea will follow in the next phase of implementation.

According to the bank, the name change is intended to align the subsidiaries with the parent brand and to leverage the strong heritage and brand equity built by FirstBank Nigeria over its 129 years of banking leadership. This alignment is expected to enhance service quality, providing better brand clarity, uniformity and consistency across all markets where the bank operates.

Commenting on the change, FirstBank Group Chief Executive Officer Dr. Adesola Adeduntan said the rebranding, which coincides with FirstBank’s 129th founding anniversary on March 31, 2023, marks a milestone that reflects the bank’s resolve to continuously deliver a gold standard of excellence and value while putting customers first. He added that the new identity of the subsidiaries will strengthen brand presence, helping customers and stakeholders appreciate the diversified product suites, competitive pricing and extensive business networks offered by the FirstBank Group.

Dr. Adeduntan also highlighted the bank’s commitment to boosting cross‑border business, including trade and investment opportunities that are essential for enhancing trade relations among countries, strengthening host‑community economies and reducing poverty.
