Kenneth Omeruo is thrilled to have capped his 60th appearance for the Super Eagles with a win, Sports Extra reports. He led the team to their third victory under coach José Peseiro in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea‑Bissau in Bissau, feeling elated to achieve this feat ten years after his debut for the three‑time African champions.

“It’s a privilege to have played my 60th cap for the Super Eagles. All glory to God for the victory,” Omeruo said. “I never thought I would even get one cap for Nigeria, let alone 100. It has been a long road—a load of ups and downs—but it has been worth every single second. I never imagined I’d get here, so I am really happy.”

He added that when you’re in the pressure cooker, there isn’t much time to think about records; you’re focused on the next job or fixture, which come thick and fast. “I am sure there will be a time when I will reflect on that,” he said.

Reflecting on his first appearance for the Eagles, Omeruo called it “probably one of my fondest memories ever in a Nigerian jersey,” having progressed from the U‑17 team to the senior side. “I was fortunate enough to play with some of my heroes that I grew up watching, who were still in the team at that time.”
