Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka added another feather to his cap on Friday when he was named the Premier League EA Sports Player of the Month for March. His contribution to the Gunners this season has been immense, with 22 goal involvements in 28 league appearances. The England star began the month with a goal and an assist in Arsenal’s 4‑0 victory over Everton and finished it with three more contributions in the 2‑1 win against Crystal Palace, where he scored twice and became the first player this term to reach double figures for both goals and assists in the division.
The club celebrated the achievement on its website, noting that it is Saka’s first divisional award and that he becomes the 22nd different Arsenal player to win the prize – the most of any club in the league’s history. His scintillating form saw him top the voting ahead of teammate Leandro Trossard, who recorded five assists that month, as well as Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, Brighton & Hove Albion’s Alexis Mac Allister and Aston Villa’s Tyrone Mings.
This is the second time this season an Arsenal player has received the award, following captain Martin Odegaard’s win for the November/December period. Former Arsenal captain Tony Adams recently described Saka as the best player in world football apart from World Cup winner Lionel Messi. The 21‑year‑old also scored a spectacular long‑range goal against Ukraine on Sunday, helping the Three Lions secure a 2‑0 win and maintain their lead in the Euro 2024 qualifying group.
Saka is set to become Arsenal’s highest‑paid player and the ninth‑highest earner in the Premier League when he signs a new contract. His current deal expires in the summer of 2024, but the club hopes to extend his stay until 2028. The new contract would raise his weekly wage from £70,000 to around £300,000, quadrupling his current salary.
