The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has reportedly traveled to London, United Kingdom. According to Media Talk Africa, Atiku left Nigeria on Monday after attending the Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Lagos. In a conversation with The Punch, Atiku’s spokesman, Paul Ibe, confirmed that the former Vice President is in Europe for a business meeting following the NBA Conference.
This development comes shortly after it was disclosed that Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), met with Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State in London on Monday night. However, it remains unconfirmed whether Atiku intends to meet with Wike to address the ongoing crisis within the opposition party. Tensions have been escalating between Wike and Atiku regarding the results of the PDP presidential primaries for the 2023 elections. Atiku emerged victorious in the primaries, while Wike finished in second place. The involvement of certain insiders in Atiku’s nomination, along with the selection of Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate, has exacerbated the rift between the two leaders.
Despite numerous attempts by PDP leaders to mediate and reconcile the differences between Atiku and Wike, these efforts have yet to produce the desired outcomes.
