Nairobi — The newly constructed Police Sacco Stadium in South C will host its first competitive match on Saturday afternoon, as home side Kenya Police FC face Ulinzi Stars in the second round of the MozzartBet FKF Cup. The fixture, a highly anticipated clash between the two uniformed forces, serves as a fairy‑tale opening for a venue expected to ease congestion at Nairobi’s other facilities.
Matches between the two teams have always been closely contested, with the last three meetings ending in draws. In a cup competition, however, a winner must be decided, promising an even more explosive tie. Police head coach Francis Baraza anticipates a tough duel against the army side but believes his squad is well prepared to secure a victory and progress to the next round. “I have been part of derbies before, both as a player and as a coach, so I know the pressure it brings and the level of competition we expect. I have spoken to the players and they understand that,” Baraza said. “Some of them have also played in big derbies, so it will not be new to them.”
Police FC have never won a top‑flight trophy and are eager to chase their first piece of silverware. Ulinzi, four‑time league champions, have never lifted the cup; they reached the final in 2016 under coach Robert Matano but lost to Tusker FC. Skipper James Saruni echoed his team’s ambition: “It will be a tough game, but we are prepared. This is a chance to battle for a trophy, and we are ready for the challenge. Winning such a game would be a huge morale booster.”
