EPL: Reason I didn’t play Mason Mount against Aston Villa – Potter

Chelsea boss, Graham Potter, has insisted Mason Mount is not yet fully fit.

Potter left Mount on the bench in their 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday.

Goals from Ollie Watkins and John McGinn clinched three points for Unai Emery’s side at Stamford Bridge.

The defeat leaves Chelsea 11 points behind Tottenham in fourth place.

Mount, who withdrew from England’s squad during the international break with a groin injury, was left on the bench.

But despite Chelsea looking for an equaliser, Potter decided to bring on N’Golo Kante, Noni Madueke, Conor Gallagher and Christian Pulisic instead.

When asked why he didn’t introduce Mount in the second half, Potter said: “With Mason, I just felt we were there, we were there in the game,

“We made some attacking subs and wanted to see how it all landed.

“Mason’s coming back, he only had a couple of days training.”
