President‑elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu praised Joshua’s victory, commending the boxer’s determination and perseverance. In a tweet on Sunday, Tinubu wrote: “Congratulations Champ! @AnthonyJoshua. Determination and perseverance always pay off. Nigeria is proud of you!”
The praise was echoed by President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retired). In a statement released late Saturday by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, Buhari highlighted Joshua’s resilient spirit, lauding his courage and discipline both inside and outside the ring. He prayed that the triumph would become a stepping stone toward one of the greatest comebacks in boxing history.
Joshua, a former world heavyweight champion, returned to winning ways on Saturday night at the O₂ Arena, securing a unanimous‑decision victory over Franklin.
