The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Oyo State has suspended its governorship candidate, Michael Lana, and the party secretary, Idowu Owokoya, for anti‑party activities. The suspension letter, addressed to the national headquarters in Abuja, was signed on Friday by state chairman Michael Okunlade.

According to reports, a disagreement emerged a few days before the March 18 election between the party executive and its governorship candidate over how to collapse the SDP structure in relation to the contest between PDP’s Seyi Makinde and APC’s Teslim Folarin in the state. A copy of the letter obtained in Ibadan on Sunday states:

> “After reviewing the activities of Lana, the governorship candidate in the just‑concluded general election, and the secretary of the party during and after the elections, the whole house resolved as follows:
> That Lana be suspended from the party for anti‑party activities.
> The state secretary, Owokoya, be suspended for indiscipline and insubordination.
> In line with the party’s constitution, we therefore wish to forward the resolution of the party for your office’s approval to suspend both Lana and Owokoya.”

The party also resolved that Ajibola Adeniyi of Lagelu Local Government Area, within the Oyo Central secretarial district, should replace Owokoya in an acting capacity. The meeting, which included state executives and local government chairmen, was held on March 31, 2023, at the state office.
