Having suffered an embarrassing defeat at Old Trafford against Manchester United on Monday night, Liverpool may face the prospect of losing another top player. Media Talk Africa has reported that Borussia Dortmund, a German professional football club, is keenly interested in Liverpool’s midfielder, Naby Keita. According to the Daily Mirror, any funds received from the Bundesliga side could be utilized to find a replacement for Keita, thereby bolstering Jürgen Klopp’s struggling midfield.
Liverpool has had a poor start to the 2022/23 Premier League season, with the first three matches resulting in disappointing defeats. These losses are largely attributed to the numerous injuries affecting the squad. In defense, players like Ibrahim Konaté and Joel Matip are currently recovering from injuries sustained during pre-season matches. The midfield is similarly impacted, with Thiago Alcântara, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Curtis Jones, and Keita all nursing various injuries. Additionally, Fabinho and Harvey Elliott have only recently returned to the squad and are still working to regain their match fitness.
In light of their current struggles, Liverpool is reportedly considering signing Brighton star Moisés Caicedo as a potential solution to their midfield crisis. Caicedo is viewed as a fitting candidate for the Reds, given his age and impressive performance; at just 20 years old, he has established himself as a regular in the Premier League with a strong team. Furthermore, Media Talk Africa highlights that Liverpool has experienced a series of disappointing statistics following the departure of Sadio Mané, who joined Bayern Munich this summer. Since his transfer, Mané has scored three goals in three matches for the German club.
