The Presidential Transition Council (PTC) has debunked a fake Twitter handle that has been used by unethical individuals since 2020. In a statement signed on Sunday by Willie Bassey, Director of Information for the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Chairman of the PTC, the council clarified that the counterfeit account, @TransitionNgr (https://twitter.com/TransitionNgr), was created before the council’s establishment and inauguration.
The PTC emphasized that it has no affiliation with the fake handle and reiterated that the council’s official Twitter account is @FGNPTC (https://twitter.com/FGNPTC). The statement explained that the Presidential Transition Council was approved by the President in February of this year and subsequently inaugurated by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and PTC Chairman, Boss Mustapha. This timeline exposes the fraudulent actors’ calculated attempt to spread inaccurate information to the public.
For clarity, the council urged the public to disregard the fake account and rely solely on the official handle @FGNPTC for genuine and accurate updates on the transition programme. The PTC also confirmed that its activities remain on schedule, with all committee members working diligently toward the successful inauguration on 29 May 2023.
