Senate President Ahmad Lawan expressed shock and deep sadness upon learning of the death of Mrs. Ifeoma Ada Kalu, the first wife of Senate Chief Whip Senator Orji Uzor Kalu. In a statement, Lawan described the loss as untimely and tragic, praying that Almighty God would comfort the senator and his family. He added, “The death of a beloved wife is traumatic and harrowing, but we must accept the will of the Almighty. We take consolation in the fact that Mrs. Kalu lived a virtuous life devoted to family, community, and God.” Lawan also extended his condolences to the government and people of Abia State, asking God to grant them fortitude to bear the great loss.
Senator Kalu announced his wife’s passing on Monday in a personally signed statement. “With a heavy heart and pain, we announce the passing of Mrs. Ifeoma Ada Kalu, aged 61, to eternal glory,” he wrote. He described her as “a woman of virtue who was committed to the service of God and humanity.” A memorial service in her honor is scheduled to be held in the United States, and Kalu asked that friends remember her and her loved ones in prayer during this difficult period, wishing that her gentle soul rest in perfect peace.
Reports indicate that Senator Kalu is currently undertaking a program at Harvard Business School in the United States.
