Chelsea Football Club has begun a search for a replacement for sacked first‑team coach Graham Potter. According to The Telegraph, the club plans to interview at least five candidates before making a decision. Those slated for interview include Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti and his representatives, who are being considered for the managerial vacancy at Stamford Bridge.
It remains unclear whether Spalletti, who is enjoying a successful season with Napoli both domestically and in Europe, would be interested in leaving Italy. Nevertheless, Chelsea are expected to make a move regardless. The club will conduct a minimum of five interviews to find a permanent successor to Potter, with co‑controlling owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali delegating the process to sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley.
Julian Nagelsmann has emerged as the early favourite for the full‑time post, having previously worked with Stewart and Chelsea’s technical director Christopher Vivell at RB Leipzig. However, sources stress that the Chelsea job is not one Nagelsmann can decline at this stage; the club is determined to follow what it sees as an exhaustive process to find the right manager.
Stewart, Winstanley and Eghbali were all at Chelsea’s Cobham training ground on Monday to commence work on the search for Potter’s permanent successor, after his dismissal on Sunday afternoon. In addition to talks with Nagelsmann, Chelsea are expected to interview unemployed managers Mauricio Pochettino and Luis Enrique. Discussions are also likely with representatives of Napoli’s Luciano Spalletti and at least one more candidate, which could include Eintracht Frankfurt’s Oliver Glasner or Sporting’s Ruben Amorim.
