The family of Osun‑based traditionalist Oba Adetoyese Olakisan—widely known as Oba Ogboni Agbaye—has called for a thorough investigation into the attack on his home that resulted in the abduction of two of his wives. Late on Sunday, armed men stormed Olakisan’s residence in Imesi‑Ile, Obokun Local Government Area, and whisked the two wives to an undisclosed location.
On Monday, while the traditionalist and two companions were returning to Imesi‑Ile from Ila on a search mission for the abducted women, their vehicle crashed in a lone accident, killing all three occupants. A reliable security source told Metro that one of the abducted wives escaped in the early hours of Tuesday and was found near Ikoro Ekiti, Ekiti State. Dr. Ademola Ekundayo, the late traditionalist’s younger brother, confirmed in an interview that one of the two abductees had been found alive.
Ekundayo described the Sunday attack, noting that the assailants—who spoke Yoruba and Fulfulde—demanded the Ogboni ancient crown and the certificate of registration of the Ogboni Aborigine from those present in the house. “A lot needs to be uncovered. We call on security agencies to ensure the perpetrators are found,” he said, adding that “one of the wives escaped from the abductors and was found near Ikoro Ekiti this morning.”
State Police Public Relations Officer SP Yemisi Opalola confirmed the kidnapping of the two wives to journalists. The News Agency of Nigeria quoted her as saying that Oba Ogboni Agbaye had entered a vehicle to search for his wives, but the vehicle veered off the road and rammed a tree. The crash also involved the policeman in charge of Oke‑Imesi and another woman; all three were rushed to hospital where they later died. Opalola said police operatives remain in the forest, continuing efforts to rescue the kidnapped women.
Opalola also confirmed the release of a trader kidnapped by gunmen on the Ikirun‑Osogbo Road on Friday. She explained that the kidnappers abandoned their female victim in the bush after learning that police were closing in. The woman was traveling from Ilorin to Ile‑Ife when the ambush occurred. The driver escaped, alerted authorities in Iragbiji, and, with the help of local hunters, police combed the surrounding bushes and rescued the victim.
