Former deputy general director of FC Spartak Moscow, Vladimir Kuzmichev, has approved Victor Moses—former Nigerian international and 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner—to lead the Red and Whites’ attack after Quincy Promes suffered an injury. The ex‑Chelsea player, who recently returned to competitive football following a seven‑month layoff, will make his first league start when Spartak hosts Dynamo Moscow on Saturday in the Russian Premier League.
Kuzmichev told RB Sport, as quoted by Sportbox.ru, “Of course, Promes is one of Spartak’s brightest players, but Moses has already begun getting playing time. In this situation he should take over Promes’s duties.” He expressed confidence that the Nigerian striker will become a key figure for Spartak, noting that Moses had played an important role before his injury and now must assume a leadership position. “We saw what he was like before the injury. Then he sharpened and scored. During Quincy’s absence, Moses must take over as the offensive leader,” Kuzmichev added.
Moses recently shared his excitement on social media about returning to competitive football after seven months. “Difficult game today but a well‑earned point. On a personal note, I am delighted to return to the team today after seven months out. Thanks to everyone who’s supported me to get back on the pitch.” He made his comeback in a Russian Premier League match against Akhmat Grozny at the Otkritie Bank Arena, which ended in a goalless draw. The 32‑year‑old last played for Spartak on August 6, 2022, when he suffered a serious injury against Ural that required surgery.
