The Federal Government has declared Friday, 7 April, and Monday, 10 April 2023, as public holidays to mark this year’s Easter celebration. The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, in Abuja. A statement signed by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Shuaib Begore, was released on Wednesday.
In his statement, Minister Aregbesola urged Christians to emulate the virtues of sacrifice, togetherness, forgiveness, kindness, love, peace and patience—attributes exemplified by Jesus Christ during His ministry on earth. He called on Christians and all Nigerians to use the Easter occasion to pray for an end to the security challenges affecting parts of the country.
“Security is everybody’s business,” Aregbesola said. “I therefore urge Nigerians and foreigners residing in our country to display a high sense of citizenship and public‑spiritedness by supporting the efforts of all security agencies in bringing peace and protecting lives and property.” He assured that the Federal Government is taking all necessary steps to ensure a peaceful transition of power following the recent elections.
While wishing Christians at home and in the diaspora a happy and peaceful Easter, the minister encouraged them to love their neighbours through acts of kindness and generosity, urging the well‑to‑do to share their resources with the less privileged. Aregbesola reaffirmed that the nation remains on a persistent path to greatness and called on all citizens to deploy their creative energy positively for the full realisation of forthcoming prosperity.
