APC will punish selfish politicians who led to its defeat in Kano – Abdullahi Adamu

The national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Abdullahi Adamu, has attributed the defeat of the ruling party in Kano State to the selfishness and greed of some party leaders in the state.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the NNPP’s Abba Kabir-Yusuf had defeated his closest rival, Nasir Gawuna of the APC in the March 18 governorship election in the state.

Speaking with the BBC Hausa service, the party chairman said it was very painful that the party lost an important state like Kano to the opposition.

According to Mr Adamu, the party is working towards sanctioning any erring members.

He said: “It was the fault of others that made us lose in Kano. There are those who did not do what they should.

“Kano is among the states that we beat our chests and say that this is ours, because whatever we do, Kano is at the top of our list.

“But because of selfishness, we found ourselves in this situation. We shouldn’t have lost Kano, but everything that happened to a person, God knows.

Mr Adamu recalled how the party leadership warned APC governors against selfishness before the election.

He said: “We had warned all APC governors in Nigeria to do away with any form of selfishness before the election, and we think it is that selfishness that led us to lose in a state like Kano.”

On the upcoming supplementary governorship elections in Adamawa and Kebbi States, Mr Adamu expressed confidence that the party would win.

“The supplementary elections in Adamawa and Kebbi will be in our favour if God wills,” he added.
