Rivers election tribunal receives 34 petitions

The Rivers State Election Petition Tribunal has received 34 petitions from different political parties that participated in the just concluded general elections in the state.

Media Talk Africa reports that the tribunal is sitting at the Rivers State Judiciary Complex and has the names of political parties and their candidates challenging the outcome of the elections displayed on a notice board.

Some of the petitions received by the tribunal are that of the governorship candidate of the Labour Party, Beatrice Itubo; the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Patrick Tonye-Cole; and one other challenging the victory of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Parry, Siminialayi Fubara.

The victory of the three Senators-elect, all from the PDP; Senator Barry Mpigi for Rivers South East, Allwell Onyeso for Rivers East and Ipalibo Harry-Banigo (current Deputy Governor) for Rivers West as well as some state constituencies, are all being challenged by candidates of different political parties.

Media Talk Africa gathered from the notice board on display that the APC and the Labour Party have secured ex parte orders from the court to obtain the Certified True Copy of the election results and to inspect materials used in the conduct of the just concluded elections.
