The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 352 suspects and seized 2.1 tonnes of illicit drugs in Kano State, according to a statement by the agency’s state commander, Mr. Abubakar Idris‑Ahmad. He disclosed the figures in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Kano on Thursday, noting that the arrests and seizures occurred between January and March.

Of the 352 individuals detained, 208 were male and 44 were female. The confiscated drugs comprised 955.304 kg of cannabis sativa, 1,225.05 kg of codeine and tramadol, as well as smaller quantities of other substances: 25 g of cocaine, 17 g of heroin, and 52 g of methamphetamine.

Idris‑Ahmad identified the main challenge facing the NDLEA in Kano as convincing local communities to expose drug peddlers operating in their midst. “Our challenge is to educate communities so they can provide useful information about the hideouts of drug users or traffickers, whose activities continue to negatively impact society,” he said. “People should be aware of the dangers that drug users and traffickers pose, so the public will come forward with information that helps ensure a drug‑free society.”

He appealed to the general public to supply timely and accurate information on drug traffickers to the NDLEA, enabling the agency to remove them from circulation and safeguard society.
