Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, the ex‑head of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, warned that the incoming administration must prioritize national moral rearmament and reconciliation after the divisive general elections. He said such efforts could promote healing and soothe the anger of Nigerian youths dissatisfied with the electoral process.
Obasanjo made these remarks during a speech at a conference in Abuja organized by Nextier and the Ibadan School of Governance and Public Policy. The event, titled “From Elections to Governance and Performance,” focused on the transition from voting to effective administration.
He added that Nigeria’s governance now requires innovative thinking to rescue the nation from its plunging economy and mounting debt. According to Obasanjo, political will, decisive action, and administrative reforms are essential to transform the public service into a capability‑ready institution.
Acknowledging the country’s challenges, Obasanjo said he is “too old to keep quiet” and will continue to voice concerns for the nation’s benefit. More details will follow.
