The Election Petition Tribunal in Ondo State has received two petitions concerning the March 18 house of assembly election. According to the tribunal’s secretary, Mr. Musa Adam, both petitions were filed by candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The first petition was lodged by Aderemi Oyewole, the PDP candidate for the Idanre constituency, who challenged the election of the APC candidate, Mrs. Tosin Ogunlowo, as well as the conduct of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the APC. The second petition was filed by Babatunde Fadare, the PDP candidate for the Ile‑Oluji/Oke‑Igbo constituency, who contested the victory of the APC candidate, Mr. Nelson Akinsuroju, and also raised objections against INEC and the APC.

Mr. Adam explained that, under the Electoral Act, any dissatisfied candidate has a 21‑day window from the date of the election to file a petition. Once a petition is submitted, the law allows up to 180 days, or six months, for the case to be concluded and determined.

NAN reports that the tribunal had previously received nine petitions related to the national assembly elections in the state. Of those, two petitions were withdrawn by the petitioners, leaving seven petitions still pending.
