The abductors of former Nasarawa State Deputy Governor, Professor Onje Gye‑Wado, have demanded a N70 million ransom for his release. A family source monitoring the situation told our correspondent in Lafia on Saturday that the kidnappers made their first contact since the abduction on Friday.
The professor was reportedly seized on Friday morning in Gwagi village, Wamba Local Government Area, by unknown gunmen. The family is now pleading with the abductors to accept a reduced sum of N2 million, citing the lack of cash caused by the Easter holiday.
“The kidnappers are in touch with Professor Gye‑Wado’s family and have demanded N70 million,” the source said. “We are appealing that they accept N2 million, as we cannot raise more due to the public holidays declared by the Federal Government for the Easter celebration.”
