The Delta State Police Command paid a condolence visit to the family of the man who was recently shot dead by Inspector Ebri Ubi in Asaba. State Commissioner of Police Mohammed Ari Ali, Deputy Commissioner of Police Johnson Adenola, the police Public Relations Officer Bright Edafe, the Asaba Area Commander, and other officials accompanied the visit, Daily Post reported.
Earlier in the week, Inspector Ubi shot and killed Onyeka Ibe after the young man refused to pay a N100 bribe in Asaba, the state capital. Ibe, a phone seller at the busy Ogbeogonogo market, was well known to many officers in the command.
During the condolence visit, the officers expressed their sorrow over the wrongful killing and said the police force shares the family’s pain. Adenola noted that Onyeka was a good friend of the police and that there is no justification for Inspector Ubi’s actions. He affirmed that, following Ubi’s arrest, the officer will be held accountable for his indiscretions.
Adenola also assured the family that Commissioner Ari Mohammed Ari is determined to see justice served. An internal disciplinary process has already begun, and once completed, the culprit will be arraigned without delay.
The family thanked the police for the visit and reiterated their hope that the command will dispense justice for their son.
