The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), received the outgoing Rwandan High Commissioner to Nigeria, Stanislas Kamanzi, at State House, Abuja, on Saturday. During their meeting, they reviewed bilateral achievements in aviation and discussed plans for a Nigeria‑Rwanda Joint Commission. Buhari highlighted Rwanda Airlines’ eight weekly flights to Lagos and five to Abuja, and noted that the Joint Commission, already signed, will be inaugurated soon.
Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, released a statement titled “Outgoing high commissioner of Rwanda says Nigerian election reassures Africa,” in which Buhari congratulated Kamanzi on a successful tenure. Buhari reflected on the substantial progress in Nigeria‑Rwanda relations since both leaders assumed office in 2015, noting improvements in the troubled North‑East region and the impacts of climate change on Lake Chad and surrounding areas. He expressed satisfaction with the normalization of the situation in Borno State, describing the current governor as “very active.”
Kamanzi praised Nigeria’s peaceful completion of the 2023 elections, saying it demonstrates that African nations can manage their own destinies. He said he returns to Rwanda after an eight‑year tour fulfilled, having secured assurances that Nigeria is a friendly country. The outgoing High Commissioner urged his successor to build on his legacy and thanked Nigerian officials for fostering genuine cooperation without artificial barriers, which enabled him to succeed in his duties.
