A former deputy governor of Nasarawa State, Professor Onje Gye‑Wado, was released four days after being kidnapped. Gunmen abducted him on Thursday in Rinza village, Wamba Local Government Area, and demanded N70 million for his release.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramham Nansel, confirmed to our correspondent on Monday morning that Gye‑Wado was freed around 9 p.m. on Sunday. “He was released due to sustained pressure from the search and rescue team. No ransom was paid,” Nansel said.

According to a family source, the kidnappers entered the house by cutting through the fence and breaking a window in the bedroom of Gye‑Wado’s wife, who had arrived for the Easter celebration. They then whisked him away to an unknown location. “We hope the security agencies will make efforts to rescue him unharmed,” the source added.

Professor Onje Gye‑Wado served as Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State from 1999 to 2003 and had previously escaped several kidnapping attempts before this incident.
