The Adamawa State Police Command, working together with local hunters, killed a suspected kidnapper and rescued two victims in the Toungo Local Government Area on Sunday. Police spokesman Suleiman Nguroje said in Yola on Monday that the operation exemplified the police’s collaborative strategy to combat kidnapping, robbery, cattle rustling, and illegal firearm possession.
According to Nguroje, the kidnapper and his gang arrived at a location to receive a N2 million ransom from the victims’ relatives. Spotting police in the area, they opened fire in an attempt to escape. One of the assailants was killed, while the others fled with gunshot wounds.
The two victims—Suleiman Abdullahi, 23, and Ruwa Buba, 11, both residents of Mayo Sumsum Village in Toungo LGA—were rescued unharmed. Adamawa Commissioner of Police Afolabi Babatola praised the Toungo Divisional Police Office operatives and the hunters for their bravery. He ordered the joint operations team to pursue the fleeing gang members to prevent them from regrouping elsewhere in the state.
The police commissioner also urged residents to promptly inform authorities of any criminals they encounter, especially those who have been shot.
