The leadership of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Echiaba Ward, Ebonyi Local Government Area, suspended its 2023 governorship candidate, Prophet Adolawam Chris, on Tuesday for anti‑party activities. After an emergency ward meeting in Abakaliki, NNPP Echiaba Ward Secretary Mr. Ani Okechukwu told journalists that Prophet Chris had “carried out an open campaign against our presidential candidate, Senator Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, in favour of the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, even on presidential election day.”
The suspension letter, addressed to the NNPP National Chairman through the party’s South‑East Zonal Chairman, was signed by several ward officials: Chinedu Ofoke (Chairman), Eluu Okechukwu (Vice Chairman), Achu Okechukwu (Treasurer), Ndubuisi Stanley (Organising Secretary), Hon. Uche Nnajiofor (Women Leader), Chijioke Okechukwu (Publicity Secretary), Richard Chidiebere (Youth Leader), Akpa Chigozie (Welfare Secretary), Ota Chibueze (Legal Adviser), Francis Nwambeke (Auditor), and Juana Nwogha.
The letter stated in part: “Prophet Dr. Adolawam Chris met secretly with stakeholders of the ruling All Progressives Congress and subsequently agreed to abandon his position as the NNPP Ebonyi gubernatorial candidate in favour of the ruling party, leaving NNPP supporters in the state hopeless and frustrated. Moreover, due to his anti‑party and insubordinate actions, Prophet Dr. Adolawam Chris assaulted the Ebonyi State NNPP Chairman, Hon. Chukwu Solomon, and the Ebonyi State coordinator of the Kwankwaso Presidential Campaign Council, James Nwite, among other party members, simply because we entrusted him with the gubernatorial mandate.”
Consequently, the ward leadership announced the indefinite suspension of Prophet Dr. Adolawam Chris from the NNPP and urged the public to note this decision, confirming that party officials at both state and national levels have communicated the resolution appropriately.
