The Lamidi Apapa‑led leadership of the Labour Party announced on Tuesday that it had begun screening aspirants for the governorship elections in Imo, Bayelsa, and Kogi states. The Independent National Electoral Commission has scheduled the three governorship elections for November 11.

Among the aspirants screened on Monday were Udengs Eradivi, Chief Ikechuwku Ukaegbu, Ihechi Ike, Senator Nneji Achonu, Chief Diekivie Ihiogla, Abu Enemona, Donald Daunemigha, and Ari Marshel Isaac Aifia from Kogi State, among others.

Addressing journalists briefly before the screening began in Abuja, the party’s acting chairman, Lamidi Apapa, said that a total of 24 candidates would be screened from the three states. He explained, “We have already screened four gubernatorial aspirants—two from Bayelsa and two from Imo State. They have performed well, convinced us, and the committee has deemed them qualified to appear in the primaries scheduled for April 16. We expect 13 aspirants from Imo State, nine from Bayelsa, and two from Kogi State, making 24 in total.”
