Kogi Assembly reinstates two suspended local government chairmen

Kogi State House of Assembly, Wednesday reinstated two Local Government Chairmen who were placed on suspension on allegations of terrorism and electoral violence.

The reinstated LG Chairmen are Akaba Joseph, Ajaokuta Local Government and Joseph Salami of Adavi Local Government

Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Prince Mathew Kolawole who read the resolutions of the House added that the Chairman of Kabba/Bunu LG, Tolorunleke Moses remains suspended and should still interface with the Investigation Committee of the House.

Earlier, the Deputy Speaker, Rabiu Momoh Alfa a member representing Ankpa II state constituency and doubles as Chairman of the Investigative committee had read an interim report stating that the suspension of council chairmen in the state had been based on reports that emanated from the Department of State Security Service which accused them of engaging in terrorism and electoral violence”.

He said the committee was to investigate their level of involvement in the said allegations.

Alfa said the committee resolved to put aside the suspension of the Chairmen of Adavi and Ajaokuta councils having exonerated them of the allegations.

The Deputy Speaker, however, said Moses Tolorunleke, Chairman Kabba/Bunu was still undergoing investigation and should remain suspended.

He requested the House to give the committee more legislative days to investigate the accused Chairman.

He explained that more time was needed in view of the fact that Tolorunleke appeared only once out of the three times the committee sat, adding that, Tolorunleke was also accused of financial misappropriation.

In a voice vote, during the report of the committee of the whole, the House ratified the reinstatement of the Adavi and Ajaokuta councils chairmen while that of Kabba/ Bunu remained suspended.
