President Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) said on Wednesday that the world needs a balanced understanding of Islam to correct long‑standing misperceptions about the millennia‑old faith. “It is necessary to have a better understanding of the religion, away from its misconstrued teachings and perceptions, as a way to achieving global peace, harmony and progress,” Buhari declared after touring the Worldwide Honest and Museum of the Prophet’s Biography and Islamic Civilization in Madinah, Saudi Arabia.

The tour formed part of Buhari’s official engagement in the holy city, now entering its second day, according to a press release signed by the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu. In a statement titled “President Buhari makes case for futuristic, untainted global education on Islam,” the President emphasized that presenting accurate information about Islam is a crucial activity for the international Muslim community. He added that the Muslim world needs a forward‑looking system that delivers knowledge and training in a new format, fostering a deeper understanding of the faith’s core tenets.

Buhari praised the Saudi authorities for “deploying the latest technological tools in presenting the core of Islam, its lofty purposes and qualitative teachings.” He commended their efforts to bring the world back to the foundations of Islamic civilization and called for a more concerted global effort.

The museum, in response, said it aims to preserve and present Islam in its true and pure form, highlighting its noble teachings of mercy, love, justice, peace, and moderation through cultural exhibitions. It seeks to provide a comprehensive cultural overview of the Prophet—his noble manners, great morals, and flexible teachings—using a scientific, research‑based approach, the latest technologies, and advanced presentation tools.
