Supplementary election: Police conclude plan for peaceful poll in Niger

The Niger State Commissioner of Police, Ogundele Ayodeji, has urged residents of the four local government areas where the state House of Assembly supplementary elections will hold to exercise their franchise peacefully.

The councils affected include Agaie, Agwara, Rafi and Rijau. The election slated for Saturday, 15th April 2023 will be conducted in 15 polling units.

The Niger State Police Command in a statement signed by its public relations officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, said it has emplaced necessary security arrangements for a peaceful and credible House of Assembly supplementary election in the state.

The Commissioner of Police disclosed the deployment of at least three DPOs and more policemen from neighbouring divisions of election areas to join the DPOs of the four affected LGAs.

According to him: “This is to beef up and boost the security strength in the areas, as well as to ensure adequate security coverage of all the 15 polling units within the LGAs.

“This deployment is in addition to the armed PMF personnel deployed to escort sensitive and non-sensitive materials to the aforementioned areas, and to equally maintain a high level of visibility policing and confidence-building patrol before, during and after the election.”

CP Ayodeji further directed area commanders of New-Bussa, Bida and Kotangora to coordinate and supervise the security arrangements for the electoral exercise within their area of responsibilities with election monitoring teams for each of the local government areas.

The command also urged the public to call any of the numbers, 07031964389, 08075391601, 07036064993 and 08032233454, to report a case or request an intervention.
