Police Commissioner removes DPO over extortion

Mr Idowu Owohunwa, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, has ordered the immediate removal of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) at Okokomaiko Division over alleged extortion of members of the public by his operatives.

The spokesman of Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the DPO’s removal in a statement he issued in the state on Saturday.

Hundeyin reported that the DPO was removed for his lack of supervision of his operatives.

He said Owohunwa ordered that disciplinary action be taken against the DPO and the operatives involved in the extortion.

He added that the DPO and that the operatives had been summoned to the police headquarters in Lagos.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the police operatives arrested a cell phone dealer, branded him a fraudster and forcefully collected N100,000 from him.
