Olowo of Owo, Oba Ogunoye
Barely 10 months after a terrorist attack on a Catholic church in Owo, Ondo State, the Olowo of Owo land, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye, has presented some security patrol vehicles to the state police command to assist the command in fighting insecurity in the area.
The reports some men suspected to be terrorists had attacked St. Francis’ Catholic Church, Owo, and killed 41 worshippers and injured no fewer than 69 people on Sunday, June 5, 2022.
Presenting the vehicles to the Owo Police Division of the state command, on Friday, the first-class monarch called on the Federal Government to forestall a future attack of such in the community and in the state in general.
According to him, the vehicles were provided courtesy of the World Council of Owo Association in the United States of America to boost security operations in the locality.
He said, “Last year, we experienced what we have never experienced before. The attacker ran away but we heard some culprits have been arrested. There is a lack of mobility for the Nigerian police in Owo. Before the attack, I was aware of the problem.
“I made a request to our sons and daughters about the problem. I requested for two vehicles but they brought four to enhance security around here. We believe the vehicles would be put to good use. I believe this will go a long way in curbing crimes and criminal activities around Owo.”
In his remarks, a former President of the association, Mr Idris Adenishin, said the association responded to the request by the monarch to support security operations in Owo.
“We knew about the security challenge the police have been having in Owo especially the non-availability of vehicles. We met and decided to provide these vehicles to support the police,” Adenishin stated.
