EPL: Chelsea directors pick manager that’ll take over from Lampard

Chelsea co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart have reportedly met former Bayern Munich head coach Julian Nagelsmann in person as the club continues their search for the next permanent manager to take over from Frank Lampard.

Winstanley and Stewart are reported in charge of this process, and according to The Times, the duo finally met Nagelsmann last Thursday.

Prior to the meeting, Chelsea had already been in contact with Nagelsmann and his agency, Sports360, but not in person.

However, the report added that Stewart and Chelsea technical director Christopher Vivell believe Nagelsmann would suit the role well, though club sources insisted no preferred options have been identified yet.

Luis Enrique, a former Barcelona coach, whom Chelsea had already met in person prior to Lampard’s appointment as an interim manager, is said to still be on the shortlist, alongside former Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino, Napoli’s Luciano Spalletti and Sporting’s Ruben Amorim.
